Museums and Chill is the former ICOM Voices podcast, rebranding to enhance accessibility and engagement from professionals and enthusiasts alike.
The central idea is to host a space where we can have informal discussions on the museum world from all walks of life.
The podcast features interviews from the museum and cultural sector, sharing expertise and a sneak peek into the inner workings of cultural management.
The podcast releases new episodes once every month. The language varies by episode between English, French and Spanish.
Our Take
Since the New Museum’s definition in August 2022, ICOM aspires to make the cultural sector more open and accessible to the broader public. The podcast is a pleasant tool to reach wider audiences, however, at the time of writing, only 3 episodes are available, so it is too soon to tell whether it will be successful in its goal. (or rebranding helped)
In truth, while the definition and the podcast are a way forward to “Open to the public, accessible and inclusive, museums foster diversity and sustainability” and community participation, museums are still a long way from reflecting it.
We are hoping this podcast will inspire cultural professionals to open their world to the public and for the public to join the discourse to create better cultural institutions for the future.
