Beyond the Museum: exploring tangential careers in the cultural sector is a free online event on July 24, 2024, by the ICOM UK Students and Emerging Professional (ICOM UK S&EP) working group featuring Emily Primmer-Pyke (Cultural communications professional and freelance podcast producer based in London).

This event aims to inspire students and young professionals passionate about museum careers to think outside the box and consider alternative opportunities in the cultural sector.

Gain invaluable insights and inspiration to think beyond traditional museum careers and consider non-conventional paths that allow for personal and professional growth. Discover how discovering your niche can help you gain expertise, build connections, and unleash your creativity. From curating your portfolio to exploring the world of podcasting, the possibilities are endless and exist outside of the institutional confines of museums demonstrated through the study of various case studies presented during the event. An example would be working for a cultural communications agency, collaborating with museum clients on strategic planning, public engagement, and program development.
