European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage is being set up by the European Commission with digital tools, infrastructures and services until 2025, the cloud will connect cultural heritage institutions to embracing digital technologies.
The cloud will be a digital collaborative working space offering support to GLAM, networking and access to cultural heritage. The cloud will hold a large amount of data and tools, facilitating easier collaboration between institutions. Furthermore, there will be training and pilots for community building. The cloud will serve as a massive knowledge database for toolkits, benchmarks project management and communication between cultural organisations. The space could host activities such as digital exhibitions offering the capacity to organisations that lack digital resources, especially beneficial to mid-small seised museums.
In addition, the Report on a European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage prepared to support calls of the cloud for 2023-2025 outlines the project’s scope and the sector’s current state around various types of data.
Our take
European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage will effect massive change in the cultural activities in Europe, fostering digital capacity building, ease for collaborations and an open source knowledge base. The cloud is especially beneficial to local organisations and projects to create collaborations and give visibility to their actions, which can serve as templates.
