The J-ARK project, European Commission and Europeana Foundation offer a free webinar on February 22 2023, with a focus on digital preservation in the context of the common European data spaces.
The webinar will use the J-Ark project as a context for the dataspace with the preservation of data and metadata, eArchiving and eArchiving-compliant systems and processes. The webinar will pose questions about the digital preservation of cultural heritage as defining the long-term preservation, inclusivity and access to digital preservation for smaller institutions and communities and cost-effectiveness.
The J-Ark – European Jewish Community Archive project launched in 2021, with its objectives aligned to the common European data space for cultural heritage. Mainly wider adoption of eArchiving and its’ connection to Europeana, and eTranslation CEF digital services. Their aim is the long-term sustainable preservation of Jewish heritage archives on the J-Ark platform “based on RODA, a mature open-source digital preservation platform, and will be customised according to the project needs “.
Our Take
Local Approach is following closely the developments of the common European data space for cultural heritage and the work of Europeana. This article serves as an update to the topic as well as sharing the opportunity to learn more about the process of digital preservation and the big picture surrounding it. Digital preservation of heritage is becoming a necessary function in heritage management with the technological developments in the past 10 years and more to come. We hope to see you at the event!
